Alexandria Bankruptcy & Divorce Lawyer

As a bankruptcy attorney, I have helped many people obtain debt relief through bankruptcy filing. In my experience, I have found that bankruptcy and divorce can sometimes go hand-in-hand. If you are experiencing bankruptcy along with divorce, contact me online or call me at 571-303-9102 to schedule a free initial consultation. My family law practice can navigate the legal puzzle for you so you can move on with your life. I am experienced in the following areas:

Divorce: You and your spouse may be in complete agreement, involved in a difficult battle, or somewhere in between. I can help you understand your rights and help get you the resolution that is in your best interest.

Child custody and visitation: Child custody and visitation issues are extremely emotional and often, highly contentious. I will work with you and your children personally to learn about and understand the outcome you believe will be in the best interest of the children and build a case to convince the court why you are correct.

Child support: In Virginia, the general assembly has set guidelines for determining child support that take into consideration each parent's income, health insurance, day care, the time the child spends with each parent, support obligations for other children, alimony, and other potential factors. There are certain complicating factors, such as voluntary unemployment, that can cause a court to deviate from these guidelines. I can help you work through these factors to determine what the support arrangement is required, as well help you and the court analyze any complicating factors in your life.

•· Alimony: I will evaluate your unique situation, utilizing the Virginia alimony guidelines, and insist on a fair spousal support arrangement, either by asserting your rights in any negotiations or in trial proceedings, if necessary.

Property division or settlement: Property division in Virginia is one of the most complex aspects of divorce. In Virginia, there are two types of property, "marital property" and "separate property." Marital property includes property acquired during the marriage which is not otherwise classified as separate property and must be divided between the two parties. Separate property is property acquired by one spouse before the marriage and property willed or given to one spouse by a third party during the marriage and is usually awarded solely to one spouse. Virginia has enacted an equitable division of marital property statute, which requires the court to analyze specific statutory factors when deciding an award of marital property to each spouse.

Modifications: In today's economic climate, circumstances change. If this has happened to you, or your ex-spouse is claiming that different economic circumstances require a change in his/her favor, I will argue the law to get you a fair result.
